  • Do you remember what a verb does?


A verb shows the action in a sentence. Can you find the verbs in the story?

These verbs are the phrasal ['freizəl] verbs. The story is full of phrasal verbs. A phrasal verb is the combination of a basic verb and a preposition. When a basic verb and a preposition are put together and the meaning of the verb changes we call that a phrasal verb. Here are examples:

Wear - [wεə] = To be dressed in something

Out - [aut] = the opposite of in

Wear out = tire greatly - [taiə 'greitli]


Do you see how the meanings of “Wear” and “Out” are changed when they are put together?

We can use will / won’t to say that we hope or predict about the future. We can also use will / won’t for promises, and for decisions made at the time of speaking.

  • When we use going to?


We can use going to to talk about plans and intentions. We can also use going to to talk about the future when we can see from present evidence that something is certain to happen.

I am going to visit my friend this weekend.
